A History as Old as Film Itself
For as long as he can remember Jose has aspired to be a storyteller. Coupled with the goal of pursuing filmmaking as a career, his life has been propelled by that compelling vision: to be a master storyteller. It wasn’t until later in life that he found these skills helpful in various aspects of his career. While at UTSA he discovered a knack for acting and was fortunate enough to do it professionally for a few years.
His passion for understanding everything about film production helped him create the necessary relationships to eventually find a home behind the camera, ultimately landing him the responsibility of Production Manager on the local feature film Sanitarium. It was through this experience that he realized the true power of cinema as an art form and a business.
By circumstance he inherited the San Antonio Film Institute in 2010 in hopes of continuing the SA Local Film Festival and The Summer Remake Challenge. The Institute has recently resumed operations after taking time off to start a family in 2013. “Building An Industry By Creating Community” is not just a Mission Statement; it’s his family’s purpose—to build their own family business in film.
