We’ve been working on TEDxSanAntonio for about a year now. Had a bit of a false start but we got up our momentum pretty quickly. But last night we hit light speed.
We held a Speakers Mixer last night at the Vidorra (hosted by George and Tish Riley) on the 20th floor patio area. A beautiful panorama of the city, a light breeze and a pretty sunset. What a perfect night!
Even more perfect was getting to meet our TEDxSanAntonio presenters face to face and giving them the opportunity to get to know each other. Nearly all our speakers attended along with the Organizing and Program committee members. Most of the evening was spent mingling and introducing ourselves to each other. We thought this might be a good idea but we grossly underestimated.
What an amazing and fascinating group of people! All the speakers were honored to be chosen to give a Talk about their passion. We TEDSanAntonio folks are also honored, and thankful, that this distinguished group will be Planting Their New Ideas in a week or so. The energy was nearly tangible in the room. And then it got better.
Toward the end of the night we did a round robin introduction. The speakers were asked to tell everyone what their Talk was about and give us one fun fact about themselves. (You can read all of their fun facts and more at the Speaker Profile pages.) As the introductions moved around the room this TEDxSanAntonio event became very concrete. After working for a long time to make it happen here was proof that we were on the right track.
The tone in the room changed after that. There was a buzz of synergy as the speakers realized the company they were keeping. Speakers discovered new connections to each other (a hug was involved.) More than one speaker said afterward that they would have to step up their game out of respect for the other speakers.
TEDxSanAntonio became real last night. We cannot wait for October 16.
There’s still room in the audience. Apply today to beat the Wednesday midnight cutoff. If you’ve already applied look for your invitation to register.
San Antonio has not seen an event like this before. You do not want to miss this opportunity.
