Planting gardens: Fighting hunger one vegetable at a time

Pamela Price

Blogger, Red, White & Grew and Co-Founder, Dig for Texas

Sometimes solutions to problems that seem impossibly large begin with something as small as a seed…or a tweet. Holly Hirshberg and Pamela Price use social media and grassroots campaigns to address hunger through the propagation and sustainment of small but productive vegetable gardens. In their TEDx talk, Hirshberg and Price will explore the resurgence of the Victory Garden movement and the methods (low-tech and cutting-edge) they use to advocate change in their community and beyond.

Price launched the Red, White, & Grew online initiative in 2008 as a means of encouraging and highlighting “earth-friendly endeavors as bipartisan, patriotic acts in an age of uncertainty.” Specifically, Price aims to promote information on self-reliance through gardening as well as the history and future of the Victory Garden movement. Price is an accomplished freelance writer and uses her blog and social media to exchange ideas and promote sustainable, robust food systems in San Antonio and beyond.
