The Kickoff + LIVE event runs from 6:30 – 9:30 pm – and we’ll share as much TED goodness as we can in that short timeframe. Some folks have asked why we aren’t running the streaming event all day; frankly, we need more volunteers and sponsors to pull that off. The kickoff event is your chance to step up, meet our volunteer organizers, sign on as a volunteer and join our team. With enough dedicated volunteers and sponsors on board, perhaps next time we’ll be able to share more of the main events coming from TED.
What to Expect at the Kickoff Event
Organizers and committee chairs will be on hand to explain volunteer, speaker and sponsor opportunities, and to take your suggestions for themes, issues, speakers, and sponsors. We will also LIVESTREAM and run talks from the main TED event happening this week.
Check the TED 2014 program. To celebrate TED’s 30th anniversary, they’re bringing back 50 “TED All Stars” for short talks and updates, including Tim Berners-Lee, Sir Ken Robinson, Jill Bolte-Taylor and many more. See if your own favorite is there.
We have the option to play recordings of talks that will have occurred by 4:00 pm Tuesday (including All-Stars), or livestreaming what’s actually on the main stage. Because the event occurs in Vancouver, they are operating be 2 hours earlier than our local time. I’m personally hoping we will be able to livestream Charmian Gooch’s talk on fighting corruption (some of you long-timers may recall Lawrence Lessig’s TEDxSanAntonio 2010 talk) – but that will depend on TED’s mainstage running on time.

Thanks for the Kickoff event tonight I enjoyed it AND signed up to volunteer.
But there was a topic I thought about that I’d throw in the hat for 2014: Income Inequality. Nationwide, but in a state with as many historically poor folks as Texas, and in a city as low-income as SA, I think this would be a fair topic.
