SA2020 – Getting San Antonio Dressed for Our Next Big Date with Greatness

CEO of SA2020

J. Darryl Byrd is leading the communitywide effort to chart a bold course that over the next ten years will ultimately transform San Antonio into one of the nation’s undisputedly great cities.

Prior to SA2020, Darryl served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for Pearl Brewery, LLC, where he led Silver Ventures, Inc.’s efforts to transform The Historic Pearl Brewery into a groundbreaking culinary and cultural gathering place.

Due to Darryl’s enthusiasm for environmental stewardship, and a personal vision for sustainable design and development, Pearl now stands as an established landmark of San Antonio where visitors are invited and encouraged to eat, live, learn and play on the banks of the San Antonio River. The Culinary Institute of America became a partner and tenant, and established its third campus at the Pearl, and local chefs, entrepreneurs, fitness enthusiasts businesses and shops combined to create a vibrant attraction.

In previous years, Darryl served as Vice President of Development and Director of Development for Worth Enterprises and Medallion Homes, homegrown San Antonio businesses. Darryl was responsible for commercial and residential real estate acquisition and disposition, land planning, engineering and new neighborhood development.

Farryl received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Hampton University in Virginia and his Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University in South Carolina.

A devoted community servant, Darryl is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, a former chairman of the City Planning Commission, and a former Director of the San Antonio Section of the American Planning Association. Darryl is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio (LSA) Class 30, then returned to co-chair the LSA Class 36. He is a member of the Emerging Leaders Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Development Board.

Darryl and his wife Monica reside in Monte Vista, the nation’s largest National Historic Distrit, with the young son, James — an avid young chess player who particularly enjoys defeating his father at the game.
