About the Event
In 2024, around 2 billion people in over 50 countries will cast their votes. Yet beyond the polls, communities are pioneering ways to strengthen civic engagement, rebuild social cohesion, and confront challenges like authoritarianism and disinformation.
TEDxSanAntonio proudly presents an event that redefines civic discourse and community engagement, inspired by the global TED Democracy initiative. Our mission is to address the pressing challenges facing democracies today by catalyzing realistic, optimistic, and collaborative solutions through the power of storytelling.
Building on the success of TED Countdown, TED Democracy aims to transform the narrative of global democracy from crisis to opportunity. This event serves as a beacon of hope, promoting solutions to foster robust civic culture and effective democratic systems while cultivating a collaborative pro-democracy community locally and globally.
We are honored to have been specially selected by TED Democracy as part of a small group of TEDx curators to contribute to this transformative initiative. Leveraging the strength of our TEDx team and local community, we’re dedicated to producing an event that delves into the civic challenges and solutions specific to our region.
Our event is more than a conference – it’s an immersive experience designed to engage participants in meaningful conversations about the future of democracy. Drawing inspiration from TED Circles, participants will engage in small group discussions led by facilitators from local organizations, focusing on themes and questions related to democracy.
Interactive activities from local non-partisan groups will enhance the overall experience and encourage community involvement. From voter registration drives to poetry showcases, zine workshops to community mural painting, our event will foster a festival-like atmosphere, promoting meaningful interaction and participation.
To minimize environmental impact and maximize data collection, we use digital platforms for feedback and engagement. Participants will contribute to impact reports, zines, and retrospective videos through online forms accessible via QR codes, extending the resonance of our discussions beyond the event.
TED Democracy at TEDxSanAntonio aims to shift the narrative around the future of democracy from crisis-oriented to optimistic, accelerate solutions to pressing challenges, and foster a more collaborative pro-democracy community. Join us on this journey towards a brighter democratic future.
