This Salon offers a unique, interactive exploration of the issues that prevent San Antonians from having ready access to healthy, fresh foods. We’ll watch some excellent TED talks about the issues and then hear from local people working on the issue from different perspectives, including:
- Judit Vega of San Antonio Metro Health
- Angela Hartsell of Green Spaces Alliance
- Elizabeth Johnson of Crave Market and Mitch Hagney, CEO of Local Sprout
- Kerry Meath-Sinkin, “Culinary Medicine, through the seasons and into our community.”
We’ll break around 7:30 pm for a fresh, popup dinner in the garden. A “sustainable chef potluck” in which local chefs will be offering a sample of dishes, chefs include: Jason Dady (Jason Dady Restaurant Group), Brooke Smith (The Esquire Tavern), Steve McHugh (CURED), Elizabeth Johnson (Crave Market), As well as cheese plates from Gaucho Gourmet and Taste Elevated, and cookies by Bakery Lorraine.
After dinner, we’ll reconvene to brainstorm and create action plans for moving San Antonio’s food policy forward. We will enjoy a Short film about our local food policy council by Laura Varela Producer/Director VarelaFilm.org and Andrew Gonzales, Producer, DigestibleMedia.com.

A: Yes. A limited number of scholarships are available. To inquire, please email: info@foodpolicysa.org.

A: The proceeds from this salon go to TEDxSanAntonio and Fiesta for the Mind, a non-profit organization (501(c)3 status pending) that brings “ideas worth spreading” to the San Antonio community through thoughtful and innovative talks during its annual conference and other events. We use funds for our all-volunteer organization in many ways, including but not limited to interactive exhibits, entertainment, food, scholarships, viewing parties and other salons.
