Last Saturday’s “TEDxSanAntonio: You Think You Know” event was my first as the TEDx Licensee for TEDxSanAntonio and wow, WHAT A RUSH. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to our community of ~700 attendees, more than 100 volunteers, 17 Speakers, more than a dozen Sponsors and one awesome emcee who made the day so wonderful.
I’ve heard from quite a few Speakers that the audience’s engagement and enthusiasm gave them the confidence and motivation to deliver their best talk ever.
I’ve heard from SO MANY attendees that they heard things from Speakers that made them think differently and want to take action on something they heard. I also heard that many many attendees made direct and personal connections with new-to-them members of the local community.
I also heard from many many many attendees that they had a blast at lunch, at the after party and engaging with our exhibits (bravo Event team!).
There were quite a few watch parties all over the place. From a well-attended viewing party at Hemisfair, to two viewing events at Bibliotech and dozens of others around the world from as far away as Nanjing, China.
And I think it’s fair to say that we were all amazed to see a surprise marriage proposal on the stage at the end of the day – this might be a global TEDx first. I know for a fact that I wasn’t the only one to be verklempt watching the proposal! Best wishes of happiness and luck to our Programming Committee volunteers, Amy Zhang and Lu Liu.
During the show we announced our next event just 8 short months from now – on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the awesome new event space at San Antonio’s Witte Museum. We have a lot of work ahead of us and we would love to have you on board:
- Speak – speaker applications will be live and we’ll send an announcement very soon. Subscribe to our email to be notified. You can also nominate someone to speak.
- Sponsor – we can’t do what we do without the financial and in-kind support from community-minded organizations. If you’d like to put your brand in front of our community and partner with us to make these events come to life, there are many ways to support us big and small.
- Volunteer – we’re an all volunteer organization and we’d love to have you on board.
- Attend – we’ll have ticket sales online soon and we’ll be offering special limited-time-only discounts to previous attendees. Subscribe to our email to be notified.
We’ve got a number of awesome announcements to make over the next several weeks and months, so stay tuned… Make sure you’re on our email list, add us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to be the first to find out.
OK, here’s what one of those announcements will be: YouTube videos of our talks from “You Think You Know” should be online within the next few weeks. You’ll want to share at least one with friends and family, right?
Let’s stay in touch!
In the meantime, check out more awesome photos from our photographer, Charles Mims.
