Fantasie Impromptu by Fryderyk Chopin
Fantasie Impromptu is one of the most famous compositions of Fryderyk Chopin that was composed in 1834. However, it was not published until 1855 by one of his friends after he passed away. There are some speculations why Chopin himself never published this piece. Nevertheless, Fantasie Impromptu remains one of the most popular and frequently played pieces till this day.
This piece is similar to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in the structure of the notes. They are both in D flat in the 2nd movements and C sharp in the first and 3rd movements. Also the note structure is similar where you play 16th notes on your right hand and 8th notes and triplets on your left.
The first movement sounds like a storm blowing viciously then suddenly clears up into sunshine in the beautiful 2nd movement. Then again, without warning, the storm starts blowing in the 3rd movement then eventually clears like a dream, or if you prefer, a fantasy, with a C sharp major chord.

About Michael
My name is Zhiyuan (Michael) Ning. I live in San Antonio with my parents and my brother. I am currently an 8th grader in Rawlinson Middle school, and I have been playing piano ever since I was about six years old. I have won first place with special honor two times at the Sonatina and Sonata International Youth Competition that took place in Corpus Christi, TX in 2012 and 2014.
Other than solo piano pieces, I also enjoy making music with other musicians. I have played piano to accompany violin for a friend for his regional exam. I play piano for our school Orchestra in concerts. Also, I like to share my love of music with others and use my talent to serve our community. Recently I took part in a performance at local Central Market to raise fund for my robotics team. My friends and I visit nursing homes during holiday season to play holiday music for the residents there.
In my leisure time, I like to play video games, watch movie and listen to music. Sometimes I also try to compose my own music. I hope one day I can have the opportunity to perform music created by myself.
